‘Awesome Find’ Baby Feeding Products

April 10, 2018

This weekend, we celebrated an extended family Easter gathering at my Aunt and Uncle’s hobby farm in South-East Ontario. The family tries to get together 3-4 times a year and its always a great chaos of adults and the growing contingent of great-grand babies.    This time around Miss M was the only little person there and loved all of the attention.

While I love visiting family, it definitely takes some planning to make sure that we have everything we need for Baby.  I’m lucky that my parents have a lot of baby travel gear that they bring with them so I can concentrate on packing up baby.  This time between Mom and I we had brought all the baby’s feeding paraphernalia, travel high-chair, sippy cups, utensils etc.

While Miss M was having a snack, my Nana’s made a comment that she would not have survived raising kids with all the new gear and gadgets that we have today. While I was showing her some of my ‘awesome find’ baby feeding products that I had with me, I realized this would make an great blog post.

Any parent will tell you that feeding and infant or toddler can be challenging that often end up with food  on the floor, on the walls, on mom, essentially anywhere but where its suppose to be. While most of these products wouldn’t prevent food from going flying they will make your life easier. I’d love to hear is you have an awesome find baby feeding product, I’m always open to suggestions.

Baby Feeding Products

1. Kushies Waterproof Bibs

When we first started to introduce solids to Miss M we has a tonne of those small soft bibs.  We realized very quickly that they weren’t the most effective (especially when baby was feeding herself), and you were constantly trying to find clean ones from the laundry because you could only use them once. These Kushies bibs are perfect. They are waterproof, meaning they are resilient to food stains, can be quickly washed in the sink and dried for multiple uses and then I simple through them in the laundry as needed. They also come in assortment of colours and prints.

2. Munchkins Fresh Food Feeder

We when started introducing solids we did a combination of purées and baby-led weaning. To tell you the truth, baby-led weaning made be nervous but these Munchkin fresh food feeders took a lot of the stress away because I could introduce a variety of foods, from steak to strawberries without fear of Miss M choking. They are also useful when baby is teething. You can fill with frozen fruits and instant relief.

3. Numnum Pre-Spoons

These are one of my all time best baby finds! They are great from the time you introduce solids to when you are teaching baby to use utensils (I’m starting now that Miss M is 14 months old but I know we are still a number of months away from Miss M being able to effectively use utensils).  If you have ever tried to feed a baby you will know that trying to grab the spoon is one of their favourite games during meal time.  These pre-spoons are a great distraction at that age.  The fit well in little hands and you don’t have to worry about them shoving the spoon too far in their mouth.

4. Oxo Tot Transition Straw Cup

We started introducing Miss M to a sippy cup around six months with water (or diluted mango juice when she was sick).  While she did well with the traditional sippy cups she had no interest in straw cups.  A friend recommended the Oxo Tot Transition Straw Cup and we have never turned back.  They are the perfect size, easy to clean and have a variety of different options.  For us, having the option to take the handles off was great, because Miss M just uses handles to send cups flying.

5. EZPZ Happy Bowl

This is my go-to gear when we are eating out.  The EZPZ happy bowl is a placemat + bowl in one that suctions to the table, perfect for restaurants.  The suction works great and baby can’t throw the bowl (and food) off the table (well food might still end up on the floor just not as much).  These bowls can be a bit pricey but well worth the cost if you eat out once a week like our family does.

6. Green Sprout Silicone Freeze Tray

If you are thinking about making your own baby purees this tray are a must. Each cube is 1oz which is perfect for when you start introducing solids.  The silicone is super flexible making it very easy to pop purees out once frozen.  Also is dishwasher safe for easy clean up! I still use this tray for frozen fruit purees that I add to Miss M’s oatmeal.

7.  Kushies Silicone Food Storage

This is the graduated version of the Green Sprout Tray from above, I believe each pod is 2-2.5oz.  This tray is great to freeze smaller meals like pastas, stews, and single sides like potatoes and squashes.

Again the tray is flexible and easy to wash.

8. Baby Breeza Reusable Baby Food Pouches

These are a recent discovery and now I’m not sure how I lived without them.  I was lucky that I was able to make most of Miss M’s food and with baby-led weaning we did not have to rely much on store-bought baby food.  We occasionally purchased the ready-to-go pouches if we were traveling or trying foods that I didn’t have on hands (i.e. prunes).  One of the main reasons I don’t the store bought pouches is because they are not environmentally friendly and cannot be recycled (at least is our region).  So recently when I was complaining that I wanted an alternative to Costco’s organic apple causes that come in a pouch my sister told me to find reusable pouches.  I’m not sure why I never tried to find some become, but these have been amazing and make me a very happy mom!!!  I fill them with apple sauce, smoothies, soups etc.

They are pretty easy to fill and so far no leaks.  If you are going to using thinner liquids in them (like soup), I would also recommend that you purchase the adapter tops that help control flow.

9. Bumpkin Reusable Snack Bags

Similarly to my love for reusable food pouches I also adore my reusable snack bags.  They are convenient, easy to wash and me feel better that I’m contributing to a sustainable lifestyle.  They also come in tonnes of cute colours and patterns.
