Toddler in Grippy Socks

DIY Grippy Socks for Toddlers

Life’s Hard Lessons

Some things you can only learn through experience, like how you can reheat a cup of coffee three times before it tastes weird or that toddler socks don’t come with grippy’s on them.  I learned the latter the hard way.

Maddy recently hit a growth spurt and outgrew all her socks (and most of her pants). So, I found these adorable sport socks by Sketchers at Winner and thought they’d be perfect…colourful, thick, and great price.

The first time Maddy had them on she slipped 3 three times between the 20 feet from her bedroom to the living room…these were not going to work.  After a quick shopping trip I discovered that most toddler socks (2-4 years) don’t come with anti-slip / grippy’s on them.

I figured that adding my own grippy’s shouldn’t be that hard. I found this fabric paint at my local Wal-Mart and waited for the toddler to nap. This project took about 15 minutes to do then 4-6 drying time.

I’m also pretty excited to try this paint to make my own yoga socks but alas that will have to wait for another naptime.

How they work

The grippy’s do a good job, of well gripping, without being sticky.  While Maddy does slide occasionally she is not slipping. These will work great as a transition from baby socks to big girl socks.

Applying the fabric paint is super easy to use and even if you have to re-apply after several washes I think the project is well worth it.
